Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common complication of diabetes and is one of the major causes of death in diabetic patients.
Compared with other uremic patients who are not diabetic, the damage of renal organs in patients with end-stage diabetic nephropathy is earlier, more and more serious. Such as cardiovascular complications, peripheral vascular disease, peripheral nerve and autonomic neuropathy, retinopathy and gastrointestinal diseases, the complication is the main reason for the long-term survival of patients and the quality of life, development speed and complications will be faster.
Studies have shown that the fastest period of progression of diabetic retinopathy is between 1 and 2 years before dialysis begins. Early dialysis treatment for diabetic nephropathy is expected to alleviate the development of retinopathy. Early dialysis treatment is also an effective way to alleviate other major organ damage in the kidney, so that either peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis should be initiated earlier than non diabetic patients.
If patients have obvious symptoms of uremia, difficult to control heart failure, high capacity, retinopathy, should start earlier dialysis treatment, in order to alleviate renal organ damage, prolong the life of patients, improve the quality of life.
